Bandarban Zila Parishad Chairman Koshaihla has alleged that Mog criminals are creating huge terror among local people and that these criminals have become a threat for the security of district.
He said that criminals are extorting local people and also issuing life threats.
Koshaihla, also the president of district unit Awami League, said this at a press briefing on Tuesday.
Questioning the role of law enforcers in taming such criminals, he said that a group of 25 Mog criminals—armed with heavy weapons—entered a government primary school and stayed there till late in the night on September 18.
The group earlier in the day opened fire in Kalaghata area to create terror among people.
He said there is little security in Bandarban since such groups have surfaced in the district. The chairman alleged that he along with his family and the ruling party is being defamed due to the activities of Mog criminals.
Confirming the statement, the headmaster of the school, Tingmayi, said that all 25 of them were also carrying heavy bags. He said that such an incident is unprecedented and unwanted in Bandarban.
The speakers at the press conference said that criminal activities by Mog groups must be dealt with iron hands before the situation deteriorates further.
