A madrasa teacher was detained on charges of raping a seven-old-year girl in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong early on Tuesday.
The detainee is Md Hanif, 27, an Arabic teacher of Jamirul Ulum Islami Madrasa and son of Abul Kalam of Patachhara village under Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari.
According to locals, the rape survivor, a second-grader at a government primary school in Guardpara village under Fatikchhari upazila, went to Hanif for Arabic lessons at the madrasa on Monday afternoon, where he raped her in the absence of other students.
The girl shared the matter with her parents after returning home.
Motaher Hossain, a sub-inspector at Bhujpur police station, said the locals turned Hanif over to the police after catching at the madrasa at around 2am.
He added that a case is yet to be filed in this connection.
The rape survivor was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
