The police have yet to identify and arrest anyone involved in the vandalism of idols at a temple in Harirampur of Manikganj five days after the incident.
The act of vandalism took place at a Durga temple in Bhatiakhola village on Thursday night.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Bureau of Investigation and Detective Branch were also investigating the incident, Harirampur police station OC Syed Mizanur Rahman said.
According to Harirampur police and members of the temple management committee, the Durga temple was built about 14 years ago at Bhatiakhola market of Balla union of the upazila.
On Friday morning, local Hindu devotees went to the temple and found it vandalized.
They reported the matter to the police and Superintendent of Police Md Golam Azad went to the spot at noon that day.
Vipul Chandra Guha, adviser to the temple management committee, said the idols had been made on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja and had yet to be painted.
Tapas Rajvanshi, general secretary of the district Hindu grand alliance, demanded that the authorities ensure that the perpetrators were punished.
OC Syed Mizanur Rahman said the idols were repaired on Friday.
Police were working to identify those involved in the vandalism, he assured.
