Admission seekers of Chittagong University on Tuesday blocked the Sonar Bangla train on the Chittagong-Dhaka route in Comilla for three hours to protest the beating and harassment of students.

The students blocked the train when it reached Laksam Junction from 6pm to 9:20pm, Laksam Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Muhitul Islam confirmed the matter.

According to sources, students who want to get admission to Chittagong University boarded the Sonar Bangla train after their admission test.

Many students boarded the train without tickets as they did not have time to buy them.

After boarding the train, when the travelling ticket examiner (TTE) noticed the students did not have tickets, he asked for double the amount with a penalty.

This angered the students and a verbal conflict took place with the TTE.

Then some of the TTEs beat some students and tried to force them to get down at Laksam station.

When the students were brought down with the help of police and Ansar members, they sat on the railway track in front of the train to block operations.

“After three hours of the blockade, we withdrew the protest and got off from the railway line as the railway authorities accepted our five-point demands,” said student Omar Farooq.

Meanwhile, three TTEs, including the in-charge of Laksam Railway, were suspended in connection with the beating of students on the train.
