The acting principal of Mirzapur United College in Narail, Swapan Kumar Biswas, returned to his institution after 45 days, to be welcomed with a garland of flowers by his colleagues and the local member of parliament, BM Kabirul Huq.
The teacher went into hiding after he was forced to wear a garland of shoes on June 18.
He was welcomed by a four-member delegation of the National University and the MP at the college gate around noon on Wednesday.
A number of local Awami League leaders were also present at the college to welcome the teacher.
He was also handed a bouquet and was led to his office room at the institution.
The teacher told those present on the occasion that he was feeling much better after the unwanted incident taking place 45 days ago. He sought the cooperation of all in order to continue his duties at the college.
A student of Mirzapur United Degree College on June 18 made a post on Facebook supporting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. India's ruling BJP suspended its spokeswoman Sharma in response to comments she had made during a TV debate about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This triggered a day of unrest at the college.
A rumour was spread that Swapan Kumar Biswas had sided with the student responsible for provoking the situation, following which police escorted him out of the college campus. At the time a group of men forced him to wear a garland of shoes. Swapan Biswas apologized to them and later police took him away in their vehicle.
A video of the incident soon went viral on social media.
Different organisations, including the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, lodged protests over the incident and demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in it.
Later, the accused, who was behind the Facebook post, was arrested and a case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act.
