The locomaster, his assistant and the guard of the shuttle train running on the Chittagong University (CU) route have been abducted.
Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers Union Central Committee General Secretary Md Mujibur Rahman on Monday told media that will not be possible to rescue them till 11:15am in the morning.
The three abducted are guard Emadul Haque, driver Abu Taher and driver's assistant Punya Jyetyi Chakma.
According to railway sources, shuttle train number 131 left Chittagong old (Battali) station around 8am on Monday.
When the train reached the Jhautola area, some youths came in a white-colored private car and picked up the train guard, driver and his assistant.
Since the incident, train movement on that route has been stopped.
Md Mojibur Rahman said: “We have informed the administration about the abduction of the train crew. Trains on that route will be stopped until they are released.”
The student agitation started following the announcement of the full committee of the CU unit of Chhatra League after three years.
Immediately after this, some of the leaders and workers of the party, who were deprived of their posts, protested and blocked the gates by accusing them of trading positions and keeping non-students in the declared committee.
Nazrul Islam Sabuj, the leader of the winning group, who got the post of vice-president in the full committee, said: "Sacrificing, hardworking and worthy men have been left out of the committee. They have called for a boycott to demand their assessment.”
