Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia, where a teacher was murdered by a student, is set to open on Saturday, under tight security, said police.
“Students who are protesting the incident may think they are in danger, but I want to assure everyone that their safety will be ensured by police,” Dhaka district’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain Sarder made the statement at a meeting held on Friday.
While giving his personal cell phone number to the students and teachers of the school who were present, the SP informed everyone to report to the police if they notice or face any sort of harassment or attack.

“You can also call national emergency helpline 999,” he added.
Addressing the students, the SP also said: "I want to assure you that there will be a fair trial for the murder. If there are harassers then strict action will be taken against them. However, the police must be informed immediately.”
Meanwhile, the school’s teacher, Ilias Shahi, said: “If there is a teengang involved here, please let the police know. If our students are part of the gang, it should be informed too. A patrolling team would inspect the school every day so the students and teachers can be safe.”
Another teacher of the college, Shafiqul Islam, said: "We have noticed some parents of the students also misbehave with the teachers. We want the learning environment to be peaceful between us.”
Another teacher, Tania Akhter, said: "We are always scared in this area as harassment has increased alarmingly. We often wonder if we would be able to return home safely. We request police to take a look at the matter.”
“Utpal was also hit by stones last year by some students. He, however, asked me to forgive the students. He had also mentioned how it was getting difficult for him to continue working in the school,” said the principal of the school, Saiful Islam.
“The barbaric way in which Utpal was killed is unimaginable. How can a student kill a person from whom they are learning?” he asked.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Humayun Kabir, ASP (Savar Circle) Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia police station Kamruzzaman, Inspector (Investigation) of Ashulia police station Ziaul Islam and teachers and students of the institution were also present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the brother of the slain teacher Utpal filed a case with the Ashulia police station, which sparked a protest.
Ashraful Islam Jitu was expelled from his school on Friday.
On Wednesday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jitu, and the next day,
a Dhaka court granted police five days to interrogate him in custody.
Jitu beat up Utpal on June 25, in order to impress a girl, according to RAB.
Utpal had directed him to refrain from hanging out with the girl.
Utpal was taken to an area hospital and later to Enam Medical College and Hospital, where he eventually died while receiving treatment on June 27.
