Police on Saturday detained a local Sylhet unit Jubo Dal leader for making derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook.
Emdadur Rahman Inzad, joint convener of Companiganj upazila Jubo Dal was arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) by the president of Telikhal union Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Ahmed Reza Rubel.
Sukanta Chakraborty, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj police station confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to the case statement, on May 23, several individuals on Facebook were spreading “offensive, false and defamatory information” on Facebook about Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed distributing relief among flood-affected people in Companiganj.
On the other hand, Inzad posted a derogatory remark on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on his Facebook profile the same day.
Later on May 31, Ahmed Reza Rubel filed the case naming four people, including Injad, and some 7-8 unnamed individuals, said the OC.
