Locals loot edible oil from leaking truck after crash in Comilla

Hundreds were seen using buckets and bottles to carry the soybean oil

Locals of Comilla’s Chandina upazila have reportedly looted edible soybean oil leaking from a truck after another vehicle rammed into it.

The incident took place on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at around 8:30pm on Sunday, said Inspector Md Masud Alam of Eliotganj Highway police outpost.

According to police and locals, the driver of the oil-truck drove around 7km before realizing the vehicle was leaking soybean oil from its rear part.

When he stopped the truck, hundreds of locals started to gather and loot the overflowing oil.

Many were seen using buckets and bottles to carry the soybean oil, while several others were trying to collect the oil which overflowed on the highway with clothes. 

Meanwhile, at least seven motorcycle crashes were reported on the highway due to the slippery road from the overflow of oil.

Inspector Masud Alam said the truck was removed from the highway. 

The driver and his assistant have managed to flee the scene, he added.
