Four dead in separate road crashes in three districts

Two others were injured in the crashes

At least four people were killed in three separate road accidents in the country on Friday and Thursday.

The accidents took place in Sirajganj, Dinajpur and Kushtia.

In Sirajganj, a muezzin was killed near the Bangabandhu Bridge in the Saidabad area on the Western Link Highway on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Raijuddin, 62, the muezzin of Dukhiabari Central Jamme Mosque. 

Police and locals said left Raijuddin's house on Friday morning, at the Koddar turning point, a bus ran over him and fled quickly. He died on the spot.

Bangabandhu Bridge West police station OC Mosaddek Hossain said police recovered the body and sent it to the Sirajganj Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital morgue. 

A case has been filed in this incident, added OC Mosaddek.

In Dinajpur, one person was killed and two others were injured after a speeding truck crashed into their bike at a level crossing on Friday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Ajijul Islam, 50.

The injured, Alamgir, 40, and Shukur Ali, 45 are being treated at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).

The accident occurred around 7am at the Ghoraghat rail crossing in Birampur.

The three injured were rushed to the upazila health complex by locals. 

"Later when they were being shifted to RMCH, Ajijul succumbed to his injuries," said Suman Kumar Mahanta, OC of Birampur police station.

Though the truck had been seized, its driver managed to flee.

In Kushtia, two people were killed in a head-on collision between a motorbike and bicycle on Thursday night, police said.

The deceased were identified as Akib Hossain, an engineering student of Kushtia Polytechnic Institute, and Shobuj Hossain, a worker of the Kiam Metal factory.

The accident occurred around 11pm when  Akib, a resident of Kahajanagar Madrasa Para, was returning home on his bike.

"The motorbike crashed into Shobuj’s bicycle near the Fuji Ice-cream intersection in the Kumargara area," OC Idris Ali of Kushtia Highway police station told UNB.

Locals rushed them to Kushtia General Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries around 11:30pm, said OC Idris.
