Three people, including a Union Parishad (UP) member from Faridpur, were killed in a collision between a covered van and a private car in Rajbari on Sunday.
Three more people were injured in the accident.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shariful Islam of Khankhanapur Police Investigation Centre confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The accident took place shortly after 8pm at Nimtala Rail Crossing on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Basantapur.
The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam Alim, a member of Faridpur Sadar's Machhar UP; Kamruzzaman Hittu, a resident of Khalilpur area of the union and president of Khalilpur Bazar Banik Samiti; and Masud Maulvi of the same area.
The SI said the victims were going to Faridpur on a private car.
“At the rail crossing, the vehicle collided with a covered van coming from the opposite direction,” he added.
Kamruzzaman and Masud were killed on the spot, while Aminul died on the way to the hospital.
