Suspected activist of banned group Ansar Al-Islam held in Sylhet

The suspect is named in anti-terror cases filed with police in Dhaka and Sylhet, says RAB

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said it has arrested an activist of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam in Sylhet.  

Thirty-five -year-old Kazi Bappi Ahmed, who also goes by the alias Tareq Bin Zia, was arrested on Thursday, according to a media statement. 

A house in the city’s Kalbakhani neighbourhood was raided on  a tip-off by a team of Sylhet-based RAB-9, it said. 

A cache of Jihadist literature was found in possession of the suspected militant, who was wanted for terror charges in cases filed with in anti-terror cases with Dhaka’s Motijheel police and Shahparan police station in Sylhet, according to RAB.
