Police have arrested four people in Chunarughat of Habiganj for ordering the flogging and stoning of the wife of an expatriate accusing her of having an extramarital affair.
Bayezid Hossain, 70, Toyob Ali, 68, Atik Ullah, 50, and Hafez Md Nurul Islam, 35, were arrested in a drive on Friday night, Chunarughat police Officer-in-Charge Md Rashedul Huq said.
The four were arrested in a case filed by the woman against 17 named and several unnamed others with Chunarughat police.
On April 4, an arbitration was arranged in a village in Chunarughat on a false allegation that the housewife was engaged in an extramarital affair.
The same night, she was tortured in the yard of a house. The villagers flogged her 82 times and threw 80 stones, according to the case statement,
OC Rashed said they had found evidence of torture on her body. The other accused would be arrested soon, he added.
