Police have yet to arrest the driver and the helper of a cement mixer truck that crushed a battery-run easy bike in Shilmoon area of Tongi on Friday afternoon.
An elderly woman named Rowshan Ara, 50, and her six-month-old granddaughter Raisa Islam were killed on the spot, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Ashraful Islam confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.
Raisa's mother Rita Akter, 23, and auto-rickshaw driver Rubel Mia, 32, were critically injured in the incident. They are receiving treatment at Catharsis Medical Centre in Shilmoon area.
The accident occurred when the truck owned by Akij Cement collided head-on with the easy bike in front of the hospital around 4pm.
The family was going to Morkun area in Tongi from Joydevpur, police said.
OC Ashraful said they were trying to arrest the truck driver and his helper.
The bodies were kept at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsies.
