Sust student stabbed to death by muggers on campus

Students blocked the Dhaka-Sunamganj road at 12am on Tuesday, protesting the incident

A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) has been stabbed to death by a mugger on campus.

The deceased is Bulbul Ahmed, a third-year student of the Public Administration Department.

The incident took place near Gazikalur Tila area inside the campus on Monday evening, Assistant Proctor Abu Hena Pahil confirmed.

He said Bulbul along with his friends went to area in the evening. At one stage, a mugger stabbed him in his chest. 

Bulbul was first rushed to the university medical centre and later shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) where on-duty doctor Kaniz Fatema declared him dead around 7:45pm.

Sylhet SOMCH police outpost In-Charge Sub Inspector (SI) Alamgir said that the student was brought to the hospital dead around 8pm.

Hearing the news, Sust vice-chancellor, student’s welfare advisor, among others, visited the deceased student.

The university Register Mohd Ishfaqul Hussain filed an FIR in this regard with Jalalabad police station on Monday. 

Students demand safe campus

Sust students blocked the Dhaka-Sunamganj road at around 12am on Tuesday, protesting the incident.

On Monday, several students and Sust unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) held meetings and staged demonstrations on campus, said Assistant Proctor Abu Hena Pahil.

According to sources, Bulbul was a member of Sust unit BCL. 

Meanwhile, various organizations of the university also held meetings and rallies demanding safe campus.
