Police have detained a man for desecrating an idol of Hindu goddess Kali at Siddhabari village in Singair upazila of Manikganj.
The incident took place on Saturday morning.
The detainee was identified as Shamim Hossain. He was admitted to Singair Upazila Health Complex under police custody as locals claimed he was mentally unstable and a drug addict, Singair Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rezaul Haque confirmed.
According to members of the temple committee, Shamim Hossain entered the temple early morning on Saturday.
He started roaming around the village with the saree that was used to decorate the idol.
Acting on information, police later detained Shamim
Later, senior police officials visited the spot.
Following the visit, ASP Rezaul said legal action will be taken once the hospital authorities determines the mental state of Shamim.
