Four idols of a temple for the Hindu goddess Kali were vandalized early on Sunday in the Kapalipara area under Gournadi upazila of Barisal.
Gautam Dutta, president of the temple committee, said some unidentified individuals had forcefully entered the locked temple by breaking its window, before vandalizing the idols of several Hindu deities.
Gourandi police station Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam said police visited the temple in the afternoon upon receiving the information and started an investigation.
Efforts were underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident, he added.
