In pictures: Padma Bridge now open to traffic

The Padma Bridge was finally opened to traffic at 6am on Sunday. People had been waiting all night to cross the mega structure, resulting in a gridlock at the Mawa point early in the morning. But they were jubilant nonetheless as their long-cherished dream had come true at last.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 6.15-km bridge on Saturday with great fanfare. The authorities have set a target of collecting Tk133.66 crore per month in tolls from the bridge.
