The major rivers flowing through Comilla are on the brink of crossing the danger mark putting the district at risk of flooding.
The rivers will overflow by June 25 if the downpour continues. However, the district town will not suffer damages, according to Comilla Water Development Board Executive Engineer Khan Mohammad Waliuzzaman.
According to WDB, the Gomati River on India’s side has a barrage that holds in water for about 17km. If the barrage is opened, Comilla remains at risk of being flooded.

The Gomati River on the Bangladesh end is currently flowing a mere 25cm below the danger mark. If the rains continue around 103km area on the banks of Gomati will be inundated.
According to sources, the water levels at Titas, Meghna, Charkathalia, Gomati, Dakatia and Kakori rivers are rising.
The rivers flow through Homna, Meghna, Titas, Monohorganj, Chauddogram and Nangalkot upazilas.
On the other hand, cracks have developed in the dam surrounding Charkathalia River while erosion has started at Gomati River.
Around 1,500 families living in those areas are at risk of floods.
Meanwhile, some villages in Daudkandi Sadar, Srirayerchar, Pachgachia and Gouripur union have already been flooded.
During their visit to those areas, Daudkandi Upazila Chairman Maj (retd) Mohammad Ali and UNO Mainul Hassan ordered the Union Parishad chairmen to prepare the shelters in those areas.
Water has already entered the Jaforganj, Fatehabad and municipality area of Debidwar Upazila and continuous rain puts the dams and roads at risk of collapsing.
Comilla Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shahadat Hossain said that all UNOs have been instructed to prepare the shelters and the district administration is prepared to tackle the flood.
