Depot fire: 3 more bodies identified, handed over to families

A total of 25 bodies have been handed over to families till now

The bodies of three more people who died in the massive fire at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chittagong have been handed over to families.

With the latest development, a total of 25 bodies have been handed over to families of the deceased till Monday night, Chittagong district administration confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

The authorities have yet to identify 16 more bodies killed in the deadly blaze.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) already began collecting DNA samples from relatives of the victims who died in the fire on Monday morning. 

The remaining bodies will be handed over to their families once the samples are matched.

Chittagong CID Special Superintendent of Police Shahnewaz Khan said the samples they're collecting would take 2-3 days for DNA profiling. However, it would take at least a month to collect and analyze the DNA samples from the unidentified dead bodies

At least 41 people were killed and over 450 injured in the fire caused by the explosion at the depot late on Saturday night.

The massive blaze is yet to be doused fully after 60 hours.

Around 25 units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence were reportedly working on the scene, while around 250 members of the Bangladesh Army army joined the rescue operations.

Three probe panels, including a nine-member local administration committee, were formed on Sunday to probe the incident.
