Three people died and at least 20 were injured in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Jamalpur and Mymensingh on Friday.
One person was killed in a collision between a pickup and CNG-powered autorickshaw at Digpait on Jamalpur-Tangail road on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Newaz Ahmed, 35, son of the owner of Muslim Hotel, a prominent food shop in Islampur Bazar of Jamalpur district.
According to locals, the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was traveling from Islampur to Dhanbari in Tangail at around 11:30am on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway.
On reaching the Economic Zone (EPZ) under construction in Digpait, a private pickup van collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle.
Jamalpur Fire Service personnel rescued four injured including Newaz and rushed them to Jamalpur General Hospital for treatment. Later, Newaz died while undergoing treatment, said Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar police station Mohammad Rezaul Karim Khan.
Two killed in Dinajpur
In Dinajpur, two people were killed in a motorcycle accident in Parbatipur Upazila’s Zakerganj area.
The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam, 60, and Sakib Sani, 18, confirmed Parbatipur Police Sub Inspector SA Golam Rabbani.
On Friday evening, Sakib and his friend were on their way to Syedpur on his bike.
He lost control of the bike at Zakerganj and hit Nurul Islam. Both of them died on spot.
His friend, who was injured in the accident, has been taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
20 injured in Mymensingh
At least 20 passengers were injured in a collision of four buses and a private car in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh on Friday, police said.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulpur police station, said a bus collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus from Sherpur at Imadpur in Phulpur around 11am, reports UNB.
Soon afterward, two more buses hit the collided buses from behind and also a private car, leaving at least 20 people injured, said the OC.
Among the injured, 10 were sent to Phulpur Health Complex while the rest were released with first aid.
Although the road was closed for a while after the accident, the situation is now normal, said the OC.
