Two youths were killed and another was injured when their bike collided with a motorized three-wheeler on the busy Barisal-Patuakhali highway in Jhalakathi district early on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Nirob Mridha, 25 and Limon Hawlader, 20, son of Nasir Howldar. Both were residents of Shahparan Road in Barisal city.
According to witnesses, Nirob with his two friends -- Limon and Sumon -- were travelling towards Barisal on a motorcycle when it collided with the reckless speeding three-wheeler carrying passengers. Nirob died on the spot.
Limon succumbed to his injuries at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, while Sumon continues to battle for his life at the medical facility, said Abul Kalam, ward master of the hospital.
Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nalchity police station, said the injured was taken to hospital by locals. “We are looking into the matter,” he said.
15 injured on Dhaka-Aricha highway
At least 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck at Bathuli bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha highway around 10:30am on Wednesday.
According to the fire service and locals, a Dhaka-bound bus collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction when it reached Bathuli area.
“Upon receiving the news, the fire service team reached the spot, rescued the injured, and rushed them to the hospital said,” said Dhamrai Fire Service Station Officer Sohail Rana
Among the injured, truck driver Khairul Amin and three others are in critical condition. They are undergoing treatment at Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex.
Golra Highway police station Superintendent (SI) Alamgir Hossain: "The accident took place as the drivers were overspeeding on the highway.”
