The followers of Mumtazia Darbar Sharif in Chittagong are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday in accordance with Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries.
The main Eid congregation was held at 9am on the premises of Mumtajia Darbar Sharif. Pir Maulana Shahshufi Syed Mohammad Ali Shah led the prayers, said Maulana Mati Mia Mansur, Shahazada of Mumtajia Darbar Sharif.
“As followers of the Hanafi Madhhab, we celebrate Eid whenever the moon is seen in any area of the world,” he told Dhaka Tribune.

People from 60 villages under Chandnaish, Satkania, Anwara, Patiya, Banshkhali and Boalkhali upazilas in Chittagong who follow the Darbar are celebrating Eid. The followers from outside Chittagong are also observing the day on Monday.
“It's been going on for over 200 years,” he added.

Besides, Banshkhali's Chambal, Kalipur, Sheikh's Khil, Vadalia, Hashandandi, Char Barma, Ali Nagar and Patiya's Bahuli, Parigram Molla Para, Alamdar Para, Haidgaon, Anwar's Barumchhara, Barkal, Tailar Dwip and some other villages are also celebrating Eid on Monday.

However, according to the government, Eid will be celebrated in the country on Tuesday as the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Sunday evening.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
