At least four people were killed and five others injured in two separate incidents across Bangladesh on Sunday.
In Bagerhat, three people including a child were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the busy Khulna-Mawa highway, police said.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Mohammad Abdullah, 38, truck driver Jalal Hawladar, 42, of Sadar upazila in Bagerhat, and Ayan Sheikh, the 10-month-old, child whose parents were several injured in the accident.
The accident took place around 8.30am in the Palerhat area of Fakirhat upazila when the Dhaka-bound Comfort Line passenger bus crashed into the truck coming from the opposite direction, said Sheikh Abul Hasan, in charge of Mollahat highway police outpost.
"The impact of the crash was such that the three died on the spot. The injured are being treated at a local hospital," he said, adding that the two vehicles were compounded.
Dr Mohammad Sabuj Sheikh, the duty doctor at the emergency department of Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, said the child was found dead after being brought to the hospital and the condition of his parents was alarming. They were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Golam Sarwar, deputy assistant director of the Bagerhat Fire Service, said they went to the scene and recovered the body of the bus and truck driver and handed it over to police.
In Comilla, a young man was killed after falling from the roof of Noakhali Express train at around 8am on Sunday at Comilla Laksam Daulatganj Bazar, said Officer-in-charge (OC) of Laksam Railway police station Jasim Uddin Khandaker.
The name of the 22-year-old man is yet to be identified
Citing eyewitnesses, OC Jasim Uddin Khandaker said: "We found out that the slain was working in a grill factory in Dhaka. The accident happened on his way home during the Eid holidays. The body is now at the railway station. He will be sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital in the afternoon for an autopsy.”
