Students of Jahangirnagar University on Wednesday staged a demonstration on the campus protesting the attack on the students of Dhaka College by a group of traders of the New Market area.
Under the banner of “Jahangirnagar University Students”, they formed a human chain on the central Shaheed Minar premises of the university to express solidarity with the students of Dhaka College.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of JU unit Chhatra League joined the human chain and expressed their solidarity with the students.
Addressing the program, JU BCL President Akhtaruzzaman Sohel said Bangabandhu had moved towards building an independent Bangladesh with the students.

“The attack on the students is tragic. The anti-independence clique always attacks students to create instability in the country. Therefore, the attack on the students of Dhaka College should be properly investigated and the real culprits should be brought to the book and punished,” he added.
General Secretary of the unit Md Habibur Rahman Liton said that the attack on the students would never be accepted. “We demand a fair investigation and trial. Otherwise, the students will go for a tougher movement,” he added.
Earlier in the day, students of Dhaka College took to the streets again protesting the decision of shopkeepers to reopen businesses in the New Market area. They also obstructed roads in the area to prevent vehicular movement.
On Tuesday, at least 40 people, including pedestrians and media persons, were injured in the clashes between Dhaka College students and traders of New Market.
A 20-year-old worker of a delivery service died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital from injuries received during the clashes.

On Wednesday, a section of Ideal College students protested in solidarity with the students of Dhaka College. They held a protest procession on Dhaka College campus and discussed the matter with the teachers.
Hundreds of students of Ideal College marched in front of the main gate of Dhaka College from the Science Lab area at around 11:15am on Wednesday. Slogans like “Don’t worry Dhaka College, we did not leave the streets”, and “We want justice for Dhaka College” were heard during the procession.
After reaching the college, the students of Ideal College said that the treatment of the Dhaka College students by the traders and law enforcers was not appropriate.
As they entered the campus and took position in front of the administrative building, the teachers took them to Shaheed ANM Najib Uddin Khan Khurram auditorium and informed them that the overall situation was now normal and favorable for the students of Dhaka College. The students then left the campus being assured by the teachers.

Meanwhile, the students of seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University have protested against the attack on Dhaka College students.
On Wednesday, students of these colleges announced to take to the streets. The police have been alert in this situation.
Apart from Dhaka College, Eden College and Kabi Nazrul College, the four other colleges are Badrunnesa College, Suhrawardy College, Mirpur Bangla College and Titumir College.
