A suspected criminal has been killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Banshkhali Upazila of Chittagong.
The incident took place at Gondamara in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Md Alamgir, 45, had nine cases filed against him, including one over robbery, with several police stations in Chittagong, confirmed Md Nurul Absar, senior assistant director (media) of RAB 7.
He said: "A group of criminals opened fire on a team of RAB 7 during a routine patrol at the Gondamara area early Wednesday morning.
"As the elite force retaliated in self-defence, the criminals fled the scene leaving behind Alamgir’s bullet-riddled body."
"Later, when the victim was taken to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the on-duty doctor," he added.
RAB recovered four firearms, a knife, two machetes and live ammunition from the scene of the crime.
