A Bangladeshi man has gone missing after drowning in a river near the Bangladesh-India border in Doarabazar of Sunamganj while “smuggling cattle”.
The youth is Tajul Islam, 35, hailing from Dharmapur village in Bogulabazar Union of the upazila.
Tajul's wife Shaheda Akter has lodged a general diary with the police.
Doarabazar police station Officer-in-Charge Devdulal Dhar said on Tuesday that they were investigating the matter.
The incident took place in the Nayagang River, a hilly river at Bhangapara border under Lakshmipur Union on Sunday night, confirmed Bogulabazar Union Parishad Chairman Mohammad Milon Khan.
On Sunday evening, 20-25 youths including Tajul went to the border area to smuggle Indian cows into Bangladesh.
