A case has been started over the gang rape of a woman by her ex-husband and his friends in Rajbari’s Goalanda upazila.
The rape survivor filed the case at Goalanda Ghat police station on Sunday, accusing her ex-husband Al Mamun Rashid, 38, and three of his friends, Munna, 45, Hashu, 34, and Riyaz, 35, for raping her in a car, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Swapan Kumar Majumder.
The woman was later sent to Rajbari District Hospital for a medical examination on the basis of her complaint under the Women and Child Repression Act. “We are waiting for the report,” said the OC.
According to the case statement, the woman was on her way to a relative’s house on Saturday when her ex-husband and three of his friends forcefully picked her up in a car.
Riyaz then forced her to take a sedative-laced drink, making her lose consciousness before raping her on the moving car.
Later, they tied up her hands and feet and left her in an abandoned building near Bahadurpur village in Ujanchar union around 11:30pm.
Locals reported the matter to the police when they heard her cry for help.
The woman also said her ex-husband had physically assaulted her over dowry several times while they were married.
She had filed a case in the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Manikganj, and Rashid was arrested on charges of assault.
Later, on November 15 last year, they got divorced.
Rashid had been threatening her in various ways since then.
