A college student drowned after going for a swim near the Sugandha point of the Cox’s Bazar beach early on Friday.
The deceased is Saeed Hossain Bappi, a student of Ramu Government College.
“Bappi and a friend of his were sea bathing when they were swept away by strong currents,” said Additional Superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Md Mohiuddin Ahmed.
The authorities later managed to rescue Bappi’s friend, but Bappi was pronounced dead on arrival at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, he said.
