Cox’s Bazar accident: Sixth brother succumbs to injuries

Nine members of a family were returning home from a crematorium when a pickup hit all of them on the Ctg-Cox’s Bazar Highway on February 8

Another man injured in a recent road accident in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar has died.

Raktim Shil, 31, passed away while undergoing treatment at the ICU of Chittagong Medical College Hospital on Tuesday morning, the hospital’s director, Brig Gen Shamim Ahsan, told the media.

He is the sixth brother to die in the hit-and-run. Raktim’s brothers Anupam Chandra Shil, Nirupam Chandra Shil, Dipak Chandra Shil, Champak Chandra Shil and Saran Chandra Shil died on February 8.

Following the death of their father, Dr Suresh Chandra Shil, they were on their way to a temple to perform puja as part of a religious ritual in Chakaria that day.

A pickup hit them while they were standing on the side of the road trying to cross it. 

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on February 11 arrested the driver of the pickup, Saidul Islam Saiful, from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.

The accident had occurred due to speeding, RAB said.
