The verdict in the case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan could be delivered at the end of January, a state prosecutor has said.
Judge Md Islamail of the Cox’s Bazar district and sessions judge court started hearing the arguments by the defence counsels for a third day on Tuesday morning.
“We expect the court to give its judgement towards the end of this month,” said Prosecutor Faridul Alam.
Earlier in the morning, police escorted the 15 accused in the case to the court premises under tight security.
Altogether 65 of the 83 witnesses named in the police’s chargesheet have so far testified in court.
Major (retd) Sinha was shot dead by police at Shamlapur checkpost in Baharchhara of Teknaf on the night of July 31, 2020.
On August 5, Sinha's elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a murder case against nine people, including then Teknaf police station OC Pradeep Kumar Das.
The case was later handed over to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for investigation.
On December 13, 2020, RAB pressed charges against 15 people, including police source Ayaz and three APBn members, in connection with the murder.
A Cox’s Bazar court took the chargesheet into cognizance on December 21, 2020.
All of the 15 people named in the chargesheet are currently in jail.
