Fog disrupts Daulatdia-Paturia ferry services, causes massive tailback

Low visibility forced authorities to suspend services for an hour and half on Tuesday morning

Ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route were disrupted for more than an hour due to dense fog on Tuesday.

Transportation on the route was halted at around 8am due to poor visibility, and resumed around 9:05am, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) officials.

The route was safe during the night, however, the services were suspended to prevent accidents on the Padma River due to low visibility, said Jalal Uddin, manager of BIWTC Daulatdia terminal.

At present, 15 ferries are operating on the Daulatdia-Paturia route, he added.

Meanwhile, due to the suspension of the ferries, a massive tailback was reported at the Daulatdia terminal. 

About 300 vehicles, including buses, cars, goods-laden trucks and other vehicles, were stranded for 1.5 hours, waiting to cross the river.

The cold weather caused a lot of suffering for drivers and commuters.
