The ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route was suspended on Saturday night due to dense fog.
Two ferries loaded with vehicles and passengers got stuck in the middle of the river.
Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager Shah Md Khaled Newaz said the ferry services were halted at 9:15pm to avoid accidents due to poor visibility in the river.
A number of vehicles were stuck at both ends of the terminal waiting for the ferry to cross the river as the services were suspended, he said.
The ferry services will resume again once the fog subsides, he added.
According to the ferry ghat sources, the fog started to build up in the Padma River basin in the evening. At 9:30pm, the fog became so dense that the mast of ferries could not be seen.
In that situation, the deputy general manager of Aricha ghat suggested suspending the ferry services to avoid accidents.
Currently, RoRo ferries Shah Paran, Shah Mukhdum, Keramat Ali, ferries Bhasha Shahid Barkat, Shahjalal, utility ferries Banalata, Chandramallika and Hasna Hena are anchored at Paturia ghat.
Meanwhile, utility ferry Rajnigandha and ferry Faridpur are stuck in the fog in the middle of the river.
