A four-month-old child has died after being terrified by the loud sound of fireworks on New Year's Eve, the infant’s family claims.
Tanzim Umayer had been suffering from heart disease since birth, his father said in a social media post on Saturday.
Facebook posts made by Yusuf Rayhan
According to the Facebook post by Mohammadpur resident Yusuf Rayhan, his ailing son had started crying and trembling and his health condition had worsened after being frightened by the sound of fireworks set off to welcome the New Year Friday midnight.
Umayer died after being taken to the hospital the next day, he said.
Rayhan’s Facebook profile was inaccessible on Tuesday as it was locked.
Rayhan said he was supposed to take his son to the National Heart Foundation on December 30, but had to postpone it to Saturday (January 1). Doctors had made a preliminary decision to perform a surgery on the child in February, according to him.
“He was shaking continually at the sound of fireworks. He was restless all night. He was given nebulizer treatment as his shortness of breath had worsened. But I could not calm him down,” lamented Rayhan. “I do not want someone else's child or anyone to die like this.”
