Police on Saturday recovered the body of a 14-year-old girl from a pond in Chandina upazila of Comilla.
The deceased have been identified as Salma Akhter, daughter of Soleiman Bepari from Gallai union. She was a student at a local madrasa.
Chandina police station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The deceased’s father claimed that a land dispute between him and his nephews led to the death of his daughter.
Soleiman said: “On September 25, my nephews had attacked my wife and put her in a hospital.

“When I went home on Friday, 10-12 people tried to attack me again, so I took refuge at Abdur Rahman's house next door.”
“At the time, finding my daughter Salma alone in the house, they hacked her to death before dumping her body in the water.”
After searching for some time, he found his daughter's corpse floating in a pond 500 yards away from his house, Solaiman added.
OC Arifur said police initially believed that the killing took place over a land dispute. “The people involved in the murder will be brought under to justice following an investigation.”
