A woman in Chittagong has filed a case against her husband for forcing her to get an abortion against her will.

Saju Akhter filed the case against her husband Kazi Safiul Alam in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin on Wednesday.

The court has directed Chandgaon police police to investigate the matter, Saju’s lawyer Golam Mawla Murad told Dhaka Tribune.

According to the case documents, Saju Akhter of North Padua West Khurushiya is married to Kazi Safiul Alam of Khamaripara in Hosnabad area of Rangunia police station of the district.

She had conceived once before after getting married but her husband reportedly gave her abortion pills under the pre-text of cold medicines.

Saju moved to her sister’s house in Chittagong’s Baddarhat in July last year when her in-laws kept pressuring her to not have children.

In August this year, her husband Safiul also visited her sister’s house and Saju conceived again.

However, her husband pressured her for an abortion once again and when she refused, he  threatened her with divorce.
