An elderly man in Chittagong could not register for the Covid-19 vaccine because he is listed as a “dead” person on the Election Commission server.
Seventy-year-old Ali Ahmed, who hails from the port district’s Satkania, faced such unusual circumstances when he went to a local shop for vaccine registration on Sunday.
His son Jahangir Alam alleged that former ward councilor Safuddin Dulal of ward No 8 had listed Ali as dead in 2019.

Jahangir added that it was not possible to apply for his old age allowance because of the blunder.
When contacted, Saifuddin Dulal said: “At that time [in 2019], I signed the forms of more than 600 new voters and 177 dead people. Ali Ahmed is familiar to me. He was shown dead mistakenly.”
Satkania Upazila Election Officer Abu Taleb said there were scopes for correcting such mistakes. “Immediate action will be taken if Ali Ahmed seeks remedies,” he added.
