An Awami League MP has filed a complaint with the police to sue a Rajshahi University teacher under the Digital Security Act.
In a complaint with Rajshahi’s Boalia police on Monday, Natore 2 MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul said Bangla Department Chairman Sujit Sarkar provided false information about him in a general diary filed with the police on July 29.
It also said that Sarkar made defamatory comments during a talk show aired by a local IPTV station on August 3.
Police said they have launched an investigation.
“A case under the Digital Security Act needs proper verification. The complaint will be recorded as a case if the allegations are found to be true,” said Boalia police OC Nibaran Chandra Barman.
MP Shimul said that he will also move the court in Natore against the RU teacher for describing his father as a 1971 collaborator in his book.
In a general diary filed with the police on Jul 29, Sarkar claimed of getting ‘death threats’ following the publication of his book on the 1971 war in Natore, in which MP Shimul’s father Hasan Ali Sardar has been identified as a collaborator.
Sarkar told the media that the list of the collaborators in his book was made based on interviews of witnesses in Natore and that it was cross-checked from multiple sources.
