Probe body finds evidence of illegal vaccination in Chittagong

Accused claims he informed the health complex officials beforehand

An investigation committee has found evidence of vaccinating people without registration in Patiya upazila of Chittagong.

The three-member committee, formed by the Chittagong Divisional Health Department, submitted its report on Monday night.

Dr Asif Khan, member secretary of the committee and deputy civil surgeon in Chittagong, confirmed the matter.

Rabiul Hossain, an EPI technologist at Patiya Upazila Health Complex, administered around 2,600 vaccines at Arfa Karim High School and Shovandandi Degree College in Shovandandi area of the upazila on July 30 and 31.

When contacted, Rabiul claimed that he had not administered the vaccines without registration. “I informed the health complex office about it verbally,” he added.

He said that he had made the vaccine arrangements on humanitarian grounds.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Sabyasachi Nath claimed that the vaccines had been given without his permission.
