17 die of Covid-19, 1,315 more infected in Chittagong

The infection rate stands at 37.41%

A total of 17 more people, including six females, died at Covid-19 in the district in the last 24-hour till 6am on Thursday, taking the death toll to 949.

Meanwhile, 1,315 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last 24-hour, climbing the number of infections to 79,751.

The infection rate is 37.41%.

This is the second-highest death in a single day in the district till the inception of Covid-19.

The daily new infection figure shows a slight enhanced compared to the previous day’s figure of 915, but the recovery rate has been declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chittagong, told BSS on Thursday.

Among the infected patients, 858 are from Chittagong city and 457 are from different upazilas of the district.

The health expert of Chittagong urged city dwellers, again and again, to strictly follow health rules and use masks due to continuous increasing Covid-19 infections here.

With 17 deaths on Wednesday, the number of Covid-19 deaths in Chittagong reached 932, said Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.

“Among the reported fatalities, 569 were the residents of the port city and the rest 380 were from different upazilas of the district,” he added.

Among the total 79,751 coronavirus infected people, 59,822 are the residents of the port city and the rest 19,929 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district, he continued.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 55,208 in the Chittagong district with the recovery of 286 more patients on Tuesday,” the health official said, adding that the recovery rate stands at 70.01%.

A total of 4,603 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, he mentioned.
