Bijoy TV’s Bandarban correspondent Rimon Palit has been sued for allegedly threatening and physically assaulting a girl scout for telling him to wear a mask in public.
The girl’s mother filed the case with Bandarban Sadar police station on Thursday, Inspector Md Sohel Rana confirmed.
According to locals, girl scout Sumaiya Akhter on Monday asked Rimon Palit to wear a mask while performing her duty in Chowdhury Market area of the town.
Enraged at this, Rimon misbehaved with the girl. Later in the afternoon, he went to her house and physically assaulted her.
Sumaiya said: "As a scout, I went to perform my duty and fell victim to the incident. Since then I have been in a state of panic. I want a fair trial for this incident.”
When a video of Sumaiya being threatened and beaten up in her home was published on a local news portal, locals and senior journalists demanded immediate action against Rimon Palit, who also works for Daily Pratidiner Sangbad and news portal Parbatya News.
Inspector Md Sohel Rana said they were trying to arrest the accused.
