The government has decided to allow public transports to resume services from Thursday on conditions as the ongoing restrictions have been relaxed until July 23 for Eid-ul-Azha.
All kinds of public transports will resume operating across the country from Thursday, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters on Wednesday.
“But they will strictly follow the health safety protocols. Also, public transports will not carry more than 50% of their capacity as fares have been increased by 60%," he said.
The minister hoped that transport owners and workers' organizations would comply with the government directives to help curb the further spread of Covid-19.
Quader also warned that legal action would be taken against anyone violating the conditions or charging extra from the travellers.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has relaxed the lockdown due to the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. But Covid-19 will not relax. Thus, we will have to keep wearing masks. This is mandatory for all,” he added.
A gazette notification easing the nationwide strict lockdown was issued on Tuesday, aimed to allow pre-Eid business and trade, ease homebound journeys, and purchase of sacrificial cattle.
The ongoing restrictions will remain relaxed from Wednesday midnight till 6am July 23.
However, the country will again go under another 14-day strict lockdown from July 23 after this interval for the Eid celebrations.
