Police have arrested 15 people in connection to an attack on police in Janali Hat area of Chandgaon police station in Chittagong.
The arrestees were identified as Rabiul Alam, 27, Md Anis, 27, Md Musa, 51, Md Yasin, 19, Abdul Khaleq, 38, Syed Akbar, 42, Md Khokon, 42, Md Faruq, 33, Md Bhutto, 37, Md Faruq. , 41, Md Raihan, 20, Md Badsha, 32, Md Bashir, 53, Md Emon, 19, and Md Limon, 20.
Chandgaon police station Sub-Inspector Zafar Alam sustained serious injuries to his head in the attack, Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman said on Monday.
He said a patrol team saw hundreds of people gathered in front of the Janali Hat Railway Station around 8:30pm on Sunday.
At that time, the police ordered all to return to their homes as a ban on public gatherings was in effect. However, suddenly they became violent and started attacking the police.
On information, an additional police force arrived on spot and dispersed the crowd while arresting 15 people.
A case was filed against the accused for obstructing government work and assault on police, the OC added.
