The district administration in Noakhali has started imposing house-wise lockdowns following a recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
“The number of Covid-19 cases has increased in every upazila. We have started a home-wise lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus.
“For this purpose, union-based committees have been formed in each upazila. Any house with a Covid-19 patient will be identified and locked down,” said the district’s Civil Surgeon Masum Iftekhar on Monday.
He said that 101 new Covid-19 patients were identified in the last 24 hours while two died in Sadar and Begumganj upazilas.

The district’s death toll went up to 121 and the total infection rate was at 9.81%, he added.
Among the infected, 61 were from Noakhali Sadar, 12 from Begumganj, nine from Companiganj, seven from Chatkhil, six from Senbagh, four from Sonaimuri, and one each from Kabirhat and Subarnachar.
So far, the district has seen a total of 8,536 Covid-19 cases.
Currently, 31 patients are undergoing treatment at Covid-19 dedicated hospital and 12 are kept in isolation.
