All types of boat movement, including ferries and passenger vessels, have been suspended in Hatiya under Noakhali due to adverse weather conditions and turbulent waters in the Meghna River.
The suspension was imposed on Sunday after worsening river conditions and rising tidal levels made navigation unsafe. Authorities confirmed that ferry services, speedboats, sea trucks, and passenger trawlers on the Chairman Ghat–Nalchira Ghat route have been halted until further notice.
Passengers were seen stranded at both ghats since morning as no vessels departed due to safety concerns.
Ferry operator Mahananda Master Tofazzal Hossain said that signal number 3 had been issued due to rough weather, leading to the suspension of ferry operations in accordance with official instructions.
Hatiya Coastal River Port Assistant Port and Transport Officer Mohammad Rezaul Karim stated that the river became increasingly turbulent from the morning, with unusually high tides affecting safe travel. He added that all government-operated vessels on the route remain suspended until conditions improve.
Authorities said services will resume only after weather conditions stabilize and safe navigation is restored.
