At least four people were killed and several others were injured in separate road accidents in three districts on Friday.
In Brahmanbaria, at least two people died and three others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a Sylhet-bound microbus and a pickup van on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway early Friday.
The deceased are pickup van driver, who is yet to be identified, and his assistant Roni Khondokar, 17, of Habiganj, said Md Shah Jalal Alam, officer-in-charge of Sarail Khantihata Highway Police.
In Rajshahi, the helper of a paddy-laden truck was killed and the driver was injured as the vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into a roadside tree early Friday.
Quoting locals, OC Mahbub Alam of Damkura police station said that the accident occurred in Kasba area under Paba upazila on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj Highway around 5:45am.
Helper Iman Ali, 35, died on the spot. Driver Faisal Hossain was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, reports BSS.
Police and firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued the driver, who was trapped inside the truck.
In Sylhet, a youth returning home with the body of his cousin was crushed to death after his motorcycle collided with a speeding truck at Hazrai in South Surma upazila on Thursday evening.
The deceased is Bayazid Ahmed, son of Sonu Mia of Purangaon in Kamalbazar of the upazila. He was a member of the local Awami Juba League.
Bayezid’s cousin died at Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital in Sylhet, reports UNB.
While few family members were returning home with the body in an ambulance, Bayazid was following them on his motorcycle, said police.
Witnesses said that the truck was carrying goods from the local depot of Lafarge Cement. Locals also detained the driver and handed him over to South Surma police.
Monirul Islam, OC of South Surma police station, said that legal action would be taken in this regard.
