4 killed in road accidents in Tangail, Chapainawabganj

The deceased in Chapainawbganj were identified as paddy farmers and the deceased in Tangail bus accident could not be identified yet

Four people have been killed in two separate accidents in Chapainawabganj and Tangail on Saturday. At least 25 people were injured in the two incidents.

In Chapainawabganj, three people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a human hauler at Dhansura area on the Nachol-Naongaon regional highway in Nachol upazila.

At least 10 people were injured. The victims were all rice harvesters.

About 20 of them were on their way to Niamatpur in Naogaon to harvest paddy around 8:30am on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Rezaul Karim, 45, Zahidul Islam Liton, 25, and Abdul Malek, 40, of Nandalalpur village under Chowdala union of Gomostapur upazila.

Ibrahim Ali, station officer-in-charge of Nachol Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the accident took place when a speeding truck coming from the direction of Adda in Dhansura area hit the human hauler on the way.

“After receiving the news, fire service personnel recovered the dead bodies and rescued the injured from the spot and admitted them to Nachol Upazila Health Complex,” he added.

Nachol Upazila Hospital resident doctor Shakil Mahmud said: “Three of the workers died on the way to the hospital and five of the injured were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as they were in critical condition. At present, one person is being treated at Nachol Hospital and four others have been discharged after providing first aid.”

Nachol police station Officer-in-Charge Selim Reza said: “Even if the truck was seized the driver and the helper are absconding.”

He also said that a case is under process at Nachol police station.

In Tangail, one person was killed when a bus fell into a ditch at Kalihati upazila. At least 20 people were injured in the incident. The accident took place in Hatia area of Dhaka-Tangail highway on Saturday noon.

The deceased could not be identified yet.

In this regard, Elenga Fire Service Leader Mahidur Rahman said, a Dhaka-bound bus of SI Paribahan was on its way to Dhaka from Bogra. When the bus reached Hatia area of the upazila, it lost control and fell into a ditch while trying to save a Laguna from a road accident.

One person was killed and at least 15 to 20 others were injured in the incident. The injured were later rescued and sent to Tangail General Hospital, added the officer.

He added that the name of the deceased was not found but his estimated age will be 50 to 55 years.
