The Chittagong district detective police have arrested Jakaria Noman Foyezi, publicity secretary of the recently dissolved committee of Hefazat-e-Islam, in connection with the unrest caused by Hefazat to protest Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh.
He was arrested at 4pm on Wednesday in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar.
Chittagong District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque confirmed the arrest.
He told Bangla Tribune that a team of the district detective police had arrested Jakaria Noman Foyezi in Chakaria and that he was being brought to Chittagong.
He would then be sent to jail after being shown arrested in all the cases filed in connection with the Hefazat riots in Hathazari.
Earlier on March 26, Hefazat-e-Islam activists staged a protest in Hathazari against the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh.

At the time they began a procession from Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa, known as Hathazari Bara Madrasa, and vandalized Hathazari police station.
The Hefazat activists also attacked and set fire to the Hathazari Upazila Land Office and Sadar Union Land Office.
Four people were killed in clashes with police throughout the day.
Hefazat leaders and activists rioted in the area in protest against the incident. They blocked the Chittagong-Khagrachhari road. Hefazat workers also erected brick walls and put up barricades in front of the Bara Madrasa.
Altogether six cases were initially filed with Hathazari police station in these incidents.
Later on April 22, three cases were filed with Hathazari police station, including two mentioning the Hefazat-e-Islam dissolved committee’s Amir Junaid Babunagari as the main accused.
