At least two people were injured when members of a teen gang attacked and looted a house in Bommala Shantibagh area in Tongi, Gazipur.

“The incident took place on Thursday evening,” Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Tongi Zone Assistant Commissioner Piyush Dey after visiting the spot.

The injured were identified as HM Meher, 50, and his son Jaglul Haider, 21. They were treated for their injuries at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi.

"On Wednesday night, a teenager named Rahmat called out my son Jaglul from our house and took him away," HM Meher told Dhaka Tribune.

“Later, Rahmat and some other boys took my son to the Banamala rail crossing area where they beat him up and left him bleeding on the railway line,” he added.

“After the incident, Jaglul was rescued and returned home after undergoing treatment at the hospital. He later wrote a post on Facebook mentioning gang member Rahmat's name over the incident.”

“In the afternoon, Sabbir alias KBD, a drug dealer and a member of the teenage gang, came to the front of our house with a sharp knife (switchgear) and attacked my son again. Seeing the situation, the locals in the area helped us detain Sabbir,” Meher added.

“Upon receiving the news of Sabbir’s detainment, a group of 25 to 30 youths led by Sajal Sarkar, the main leader of the Dattapara youth gang, attacked and looted Meher’s house with sharp weapons.

While ransacking the house, they stole money, a few gold ornaments, a laptop and three mobile phones.

While leaving, they also threatened the local shopkeepers, asking them to keep their mouths shut about the incident, Meher mentioned

GMP Assistant Commissioner Piyush Dey said several police teams had visited the house after receiving information and action will be taken following an investigation.

However, the police official claimed that the involvement of the teenage gang was not correct.
