A sub-inspector has been found possessing 12kg cannabis inside Pabna Sadar police station.
The matter came into light on Monday when the district superintendent of police (SP), Mohibul Islam Khan, went to the police station on information that the accused, SI Asim Uddin, was possessing a huge cache of cannabis in his cabinet.
The cannabis was seized from his cabinet after a search, OC Nasim Ahmed said, and he was withdrawn from the police station immediately.
The OC added that Asim had kept aside the cannabis seized during a raid at Pabna Sadar upazila on April 24.
The accused claimed that he had recovered 5kg cannabis from a drug peddler on that day. “He wanted to sell it to the drug abusers,” the OC said. Departmental action would be taken against him.
On Tuesday, SI Asim was produced before a Pabna court in a case filed in this connection, before being sent to jail.
